Mars & Other Planets is a New Orleans-based rock project founded in 2023 by singer-songwriter Marissa Douglas. In 2024, the band released a self-titled indie folk album, including jazzy debut single The Sun, which was selected for New Orleans Public Library's Crescent City Sounds collection. Later that year, they transitioned to a heavier sound with standalone hard rock hit Dark Signs, followed by grunge EP On Power.Mars & Other Planets has evolved dramatically since incorporating songwriter/producer Chris Billiot. In February 2026, the band released Dialectics, an "eclectic" progressive rock and power pop album "with musical theatre undertones" (Gambit; Antigravity Magazine). The album was featured in nola.com's Best of New Orleans that month.Fans and critics have highlighted Mars & Other Planets' bold experimentation with elements of grunge, jazz, folk, prog rock, doom metal, and other styles of music. Their melodic songs captivate listeners and audiences with clever storytelling and intentional shifts in timing, key, and mood.
